Dear Parent or Guardian,
In the next few weeks, your son or daughter will begin a science project in our science class. The science project’s objective is to give every child hands-on experience using the scientific method. In addition, each student will have the opportunity to independently research a topic of his or her interest. You can help motivate your son or daughter by taking an interest in the project.Your child will have an opportunity to enter his or her science project in the science fair early next year.
. The emphasis of our project is not on winning, but on having positive learning experiences and having fun.To this page I will be adding a timeline for our class projects, a safety guide, and a safety contract. Please go over the Rules and Guidelines http://www.societyforscience.org/page.aspx?pid=312 with your child. Please read all information for parents/students. Thank you for your help.
SCIENCE FAIR SCHEDULE OF WHEN THINGS ARE DUE and RESOURCES:
The students needed more assistance so I have revised the due dates:
1. Literature Review and Bibliography Page due: Nov. 21st
2. Rough Draft Part 3a due December 6th
3. Everything-Final Draft of Research Paper, Science Fair Board, and Science Journal is due no later than January 8th. Pre - Judging in library January 9th.
ATTENTION: I have uploaded a Step by Step Power Point guide and Rubric on how to finish the Complete Project Below. Here is a brief check list of what is due to make sure you have completed the project:
1. Turn in rough draft of pages 3-5 of Research Paper Template. December 6th
2. Complete Final Research Paper(which includes the literature review). Follow Research Paper Template to Complete. Due by January 8th.
3. Complete Abstract by January 8th.
4. Complete Science Notebook by January 8th.
5. Complete Science Fair Display Board by January 8th.
Special Note: Remember that excuses are for people that need them, and Ms. McCoy accepts no excuses or late projects. I have given you a SEMESTER to complete a science fair project. I offer tutoring every Tuesday during lunch. I have spent hours making these handouts and presentations so that you can be successful. Be sure to write in your planner and ask questions when you don't know what to do. If you don't know something by the time your project is due...that reflects on YOU because I always go over everything, so please make sure you FOCUS in class and visit this page on my class website. You are going to HIGH school so I have HIGH expectations. You are receiving HS credit for my class so lets all be responsible and get this done... YOU CAN DO IT!

Below is an excellent example of a literature review. Please use the following examples when writing your Final Literature Review and Research Paper. Your Literature review is the first few pages of your Research Paper after the Title Page. Your Research Paper includes a Title page, then literature review, the details of your project such as your hypothesis, materials, data, conclusions, and the last page is the work cited/Bibliography page. Research Paper Instructions are after this document. Use MLA style. Do not confuse the lit review being the same as the Complete research paper, and the lit review is not the same as a bibliography, but you do need a bibliography with it.
The Research Paper:This is a Template on how to complete your research paper, please simply remove the instructions ( if you follow the template it is SUPER easy). Final Science Fair project is due by January 8th and the rough draft for part 3a is due December 6th! Look at the example of the research paper below, you need to tun in a rough draft of pages 3 through 5 on December 6th.
This is an example of a complete research paper.
Abstract
After finishing research and experimentation, you are required to write a (maximum) 250 word, one-page abstract. You need several copies of the abstract (one for the board and one for science journal). The abstract should include the following:
a)purpose of the experiment b)procedure c)data d)conclusions
Please see example below. Simply follow the exact format below including putting your name and address at the top.
This is how your science fair board should look.
Science Notebook Guide
Below are the handouts that were given in class back in September.
This is another example of how to cite your work on your work cited/bibliography page. To see an example bibliography, please look at the literature review example above and there is another one at the bottom of this page.
